I have the opposite problem I can't tolerate lies...even the smallest one...One can do a blunder and get away with if one tells me the truth but i just hate it when a person lies to me even for the smallest reason...do I over react...or how do you people react...how do you react to lies?

Lying is almost never a medical problem. Normally, it is a bad habit, a lazy behavior committed by people who are overly fearful of confrontation or rejection. I hate lying too, although my reaction is not as strong as yours apparently is. Once I observe that a person lies consistently, I simply tend to disassociate myself from that person.

So long as you don't over react to children's lies. There is a stage at around 3 or 4 when that is a normal phase.

One uniquely human characteristic is to be deceitful, and to some degree is probably necessary for successful human interaction. A peaceful community for the expense of a white lie.

So long as you don't go off on the kid, but make them understand that you will think more of them if they simply tell the truth, is an honorable stance to take.

Lying is a normal part of social interaction. Compulsive liars - lie due to habit. Whereas most norm people lie when there is a conflict of interest - when two people have different beliefs, values, and goals - lying is common. Overreacting to lying may signal your desire to be in control of the situation. Ironically, the more you overreact to someone lying - the more likely they are to lie to you in the future. Lying is often a relational dynamic - both people influences what happens.

No one likes to be lied to, but I don't feel it is a medical problem. I think it is a learned behavior stemming from childhood...lying to not get in trouble or spanked. It's good to know that you ALWAYS tell the truth.....

I am the same way.. I hate liars.. even little ones.
My husband is a cronic liar.. and i don't think he even knows he is doiing it anymore.. because he tells lies to me all the time.. I tell him he is a liar all the time but it don't seem to help.. even in front of other people he does this.. so when he does it i tell him in front of people he is a liar too. don't seem to embarrass him any.. so is he stupid or what?
