The novel by Nevil Shute is "A Town like Alice". I think "A Town called Alice" is just a mistake - people using the wrong words.

"A Town like Alice" is the novel by Nevil Shute.
I've never heard of a book with the title "A Town Called Alice". I think you're getting confused with the Jam song "A Town Called Malice"

Sorry, there's no "Town CALLED Alice", just "Town LIKE Alice".
