treu friendship i believe is like a marriage. you have to work at it all the time. and both parties should be involved. not a one way street .and you should always agree that whatever is brought in2 the relationship. secrets etc should stay in it.........
from someone who had a very bad experience with what i thought was "true friendship"

I'd like to think that it does exist. I'd also like to think that although people may always do and say things that let you know they are a real friend, they will also be there when you say you really need them. However, my standards could be too high since my answer as to whether true friendship can really exist or if I am just dreaming about it, constantly changes with each experience.

You are right but there are still many people out there that are true friends with each other. It takes time and commitment to be a good friend and I think that is why many people haven't a good friend. It is said you are fortunate to have one really true friend in a life time. We all could try harder and be there for our friends because in the end besides God and family there is nothing more important.

ofcourse it does. just like there are good parents who fulfil all the needs of their children, provide them with good education and good values that will see them thru 4 the rest of their life....
friendship is just one of the relationships that a person makes.
and i think despite the changing times if there r a few people who r truly good at heart, and they continue to pass the word, true friendship can never become extinct.

Yes, I think it exists. My wife and I have one. Sure life is full of people like the one you described but not everyone is like that. Good luck in finding your true friend!

It does you just have to find the right people and let peoples action speak for themselves. Its hard to find real folks in this world, but theey do exist

let me tell u something that recently happened to me. me and a girl were friends since we were in forth grade. now we finished college. We smoked first time together, we went to disco first time together, we went dating boys and partying together. a week ago, in the middle of the night her boyfriend called and asked me when have we been sleeping together? I was like WTF?! does this mean. He said that she said to him that she thinks we slept together. I never flirted with her BF, I have a boyfriend my own that I love very much. I am just not the kind of girl to do something like this. I decided to brake the relationship with her but I'm still shocked.

They can, but remember this: You can never trust anyone 100% of the time, not even yourself. You cannot know what someone will do or say in any given situation.
