A while ago a bought a tortoise for my children, their little faces would light up as a placed him on his back, we would sit for hours watching him dance and wriggle, sometimes he would actually spin if we put him on the kitchen floor, now sadly he refuses, ive tried everything but he just wont move a muscle, self self self thats all he thinks about, he wont even eat the lettuce i spent 54p on last week. Any suggestions?

You are without a doubt a prat. If you think that is funny, I hope you come back as a mistreated pet if reincarnation happens, then you will see how funny it is that your sick idea of a joke, may put ideas into impressionable young, and perhaps old mentally challenged peoples heads. Tortoises can DIE if left on their backs for too long, it crushes their lungs as their heavier organs compress the lungs. GET A LIFE and try and think of a way to make up for your idiotic question. This site should just be for people who actually care about animals, and need good advice, and not excuses for the human race like you.

I don't care if you are joking or not, or if you think I am overreacting, by all means, come back with some sarcastic comment if it makes you feel better, I am sure no-one who actually cares about animals on this site (and the only people whose opinions I care about anyway) will laugh or spare you any sympathy. I hope you can live with your conscience when perhaps next week you see a news headline that the RSPCA have charged someone for copying your sick idea. Oh, and my suggestion, as you ask, is that you go and find a road, preferably a very busy one, and play in the middle of it. Cheers.

A tortoise is NOT a plaything, it is a living creature. It is no surprise it is pissed off at your treatment of it. If that's all you wanted why didn't you buy a spinning top. Poor you spending a whole 54p on lettuce, I bet that's really messed up your finances.

How would you like it if someone came along and spun you around just for fun, and didn't feed you properly??

Anyway, tortoises hibernate during the winter, he should be somewhere safe from predators, so he can sleep through the winter!!

I think they hibernate this time of year. However, a friend of mine had a tortoise and he painted a "Mod" sign on its shell. A few days later the reptile is found dead in the shed. My mate took it to the vet who went mad at my mate because apparently the tortoise died of poisoning from the paint, as it absorbed the nasty stuff through its shell. Despite this, he went ahead a purchased another tortoise, and he lived happily ever after. That is until he bought Charlie, an overactive Cocker Spaniel. Charlie jumps on the poor tortoise and flips it around.

I have never been interested in tortoise ownership, as to me they seem extremely dull.

Sorry to hear about yours though.

They are coolblooded animals, they don't use to move alot, just when they are hungry. U dont have to be afraid if he dont moves or don't wannt to eat. They have periods, when they eat every day, and then it can happen that they dont eat a week long.
Actually they try to hibernate, their functions are going to a low enery consumption. Tortoise can stay alive even 30-40 days wihtout eating.

If your children are entertained by torturing an endangered animal, they will grow up to be serial killers for which you can take credit. I want to know what idiot sold you a tortoise. It's you Britts that are destroying the environment. Here in the US, if anyone even touches a tortoise, they can be fined severely. I'm hoping that your "question" is a lame attempt at humor. I just don't find it amusing at all.

What do you expect with a 54p lettuce. Get a decent one you cheapskate! An Iceburg Lettuce would be a good choice, or if you can still get them a Coss Lettuce. now they were a REAL lettuce!

Dont you think its a tad cruel to put your tortoise on its back so you and your family can laugh at it trying to get back the right way, i thinks its awful - you shouldnt have a pet if your not going to treat it properly.

I dont have experience at all with tortoises but i would say that you have either killed the poor thing or it is just damn sick of your cruelness and wont amuse you any more

All totoise have to hybernate when the temperature drops. Place him/her in a strong cardboars box filled with shredded newspaper for insulation and put it in a warm dark cupboard or under the stairs where he won't be disturbed until Spring. Check occasional to see all is well.

I sincerely hope this is just your idea of a sick, twisted joke.

If it isn't, and you really did torture that poor animal, I hope someone somehow tracks you down and takes your children away from you. Perhaps with a lot of counselling, they'll have a chance at becoming normal adults.

Sociopaths like you belong locked up somewhere.

Tortoise might be dead. Put them on their back and they suffocate. Besides, tortoises are not a spin toy. If the other animals ever find out what you have done your days are numbered.
