As a native I say its beautiful! There is so much history here, it makes you feel like you are part of something. We are actually not a state, but a Commonwealth. There are beautiful places all over. From Boston, with it's brick buildings, harbor, museums, parks, and of course Fenway Park. The original Garden is gone, but The Fleet Center is now The T.D. Banknorth Garden, so we've got "The Garden" back. You won't find a place with more bars. Then you can go to Western Mass and see farms and wide open space. The forests are amazing, and we have tons of those cute little suburban towns. The Cape is a little slice of heaven. And then you can venture out to the islands and immerse yourself in the glory of island life for a bit. I know many people who went away for college and had to move back after graduation because there is no place like Massachusetts! Boston hosts more colleges than I believe any other city and we have some of the best Universities! Even if you don't go, Harvard is so rich in History and architectural beauty that people love it. We have old and new everything. I don't understand how you could go through life never seeing The Citgo Sign, The Prudential Building, The John Hancock Tower, The Emerald Necklace. The is perfection!

It is a great (Commonwealth) state with a wide variety of settings. American history abounds from the Plymouth Rock to Boston, Lincoln, Concord and the witches of Salem. You have mystic seaports such as Gloucester and Rockport. You have the beaches on old Cape Cod not to mention Nantucket and Martha's Vinyard. You have the Berkshires with quaint villages like Shelburne Falls and Old Deerfield.
Boston is an ideal city for young adults, culture plus a great singles area. The North End, Southie, Newbury Street all have unique qualities. Massachusetts simply is a nice place.

The one person I have known on a first-name, welcome in my home basis who was from Boston killed someone and is in prison wrangling through the courts for his life now.
Needless to say, this person singlehandedly disabused me of any high-falutin' illusions I had about Boston as the cultural center of the United States.
