Tell her in plain English. No, we can not afford this. You can compromise though, (speaking of the previous question I just answered). Take a certain amount/percentage, and put it aside to start saving for what she wants. If it is something that is on sale, and you think the price is good, put it on layaway to be able to get that bargain. You didn't mention, does she have a job?

Necessities before luxuries. If she cannot understand and accept that, she'll have you in the poor house. Nothing is for free. She needs to get a job and budget money wisely.

It sounds like shopping is her God. Why don't you try going to a (Christian) church and talking w/ the Pastor. Being in the family of God will save you from alot of heartache and grief.
It might also help to read the book "Power of a Praying Husband" by Stormie Omartian. Prayer is very powerful and God can do the impossible. Trust me I know.

God Bless you friend.

1. Tell her about your income and "how much we should save for bad times and for our future" then ask her to prepare a good budget plan keeping the future in mind.
2 ask to make a list of what she buys everymonth and then in the end of the month she should calculate how much she spent and was it worthy.
3. Tell her to decide a certain amount of pocket money for herself for each month and not to go beyond that.

People don't just become materialistic overnight...Chances are, she always had this in her, only now she is showing it more. If what you can provide isn't up to her standards (was it ever?), then it is time for her to get a job, and shop till she drops (not literally)...Materialistic people have self esteem issues.

Same problem. First it's the expensive purses, then it's jewelry, then it's a Mercedes. I can tell you that it is never going to stop.

Buy her a lottery ticket if she wins it's all hers. This way she can't say you never gave her anything.
