Hi,

Notebooks and Laptops are portable computers but there is a minor difference between them.

Laptop: A portable computer small enough to use on one's lap.

Notebook: A light, portable computer that is generally thinner than a laptop.

Generally what this means is that things like CD/DVD drives would be external on a Notebook, e.g. connected via USB as opposed to being integrated.

a laptop is designed to contain alot more information than a notebook. Fair enough there are so many model and makes out there now, that you should not be asking for a "laptop or a notebook" but look at the specification of machines you are planning to get. i.e software, graphics, size of screen CPU, Psu speeds, hard drive space then which you are more comfortable with.
The name and size are usually the only thing different now adays.

They are one and the same. When I worked at Dixons one Christmas we were told to stop calling them laptops and that from then on they would be notebooks. The reason for this? Well a bloke was using it on his lap and fell asleep one day, the result was that the heat from the offending laptop (as it had been sold to him) burnt him. This guy then sued the company involved as it implied that it could be used on your lap.

Notebooks do not have many of the same things you can do with a laptop. They are... junk in my opinion.

Nothing, laptop is a generic name, whereas notebook is a trademark name (just like vacum cleaner is a generic name while hoover is a brand name).

Hope this helps.

I heard they stopped calling them a laptop because people were setting them on their laps, and in some cases, men had a significantly decreased sperm count due to the battery. So they had to change the name. I don't know if it is true or not; just what I heard.
