I have heard that too and believed it until I found this.....
MYTH: You can increase your chances of having a boy or a girl by timing intercourse a particular way.
Although theories like this abound, there is no scientific evidence to link the timing of conception and the sex of the baby. (One popular theory claims that you can increase your odds of having a baby girl by making love no closer than two to three days prior to ovulation, and that you can increase your odds of having a baby boy by timing intercourse as close to ovulation as possible.)
Even high-tech methods of sex selection have been branded a failure. A 1996 article in the British newspaper The Independent revealed that couples who paid top dollar to a London fertility clinic that claimed to be able to use IVF technology to separate sperm had "an exactly 50-50 chance of getting the sex of their choice."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Unofficially…
According to a recent article on Stork Site, an article in the British journal Nature claims that the age of your mate may help to determine the sex of your child. Researchers apparently discovered that men with partners at least five years younger than themselves had sons twice as often as daughters, and that women who married younger men produced twice as many daughters as sons. It's an interesting finding, but it's just one study.

The way I understand it is that male sperm swim faster, but female sperm live longer. So if you have intercourse before you ovulate, you have a better chance of having a girl. If you ovulate first and then have sex, it's more 50/50.
I'm having a girl and my husband and I had sex every other day from the end of my last period, so I'm pretty sure that it made a difference that I had sex before I ovulated.

ABSOLUTELY!! Listen to him! However, I would have sex 2-4 days before you plan to ovulate. All of what he said is true...male sperm swim faster, but they also die faster. Male sperm only live for about 1 day, where female sperm live for more like 3 or 4 days. Therefore, if you have sex about 2-3 days before you are going to ovulate, then by the time ovulation occurs, all the male sperm will have died and only female sperm are left. Get it??! My doctor told me that both times I was pregnant...and lets just say I have two healthy beautiful girls!! I am a strong believer of that, and proof that it works too! Good luck!

i believe this is one of the theories that they have investigated in gender determination - however - i dont think any docs really recommend it. I mean its hard enough to concieve to start out - so just take your 50% chance of girl or boy and see what the outcome is.
