Could be a couple of things. It might be hardware failure that is causing it. A dying hard drive, overheating system from a bad fan, bad power supply, etc.

Could also be a software problem with Windows, a virus, spyware infection, etc. You probably should run a virus scan as well as a spyware scan. If that does not solve the problem you might want to do a Windows XP repair with the orginal CD.

Start your computer in safe mode. Hit f8 repeatedly when you first turn on the computer until the boot options menu appears.

If you computer start in safe mode and stays on (you didn't say how quickly it crashed) there may be a program loading each time your computer starts that is making your system unstable. You may need to stop that program from starting on boot.

You can do this by going to Start>Run and type in "msconfig" no quotes please. The system config window will open. Click on the startup tab. This will give you a list of all the programs that start each time you turn on your computer. If you uncheck them they will no longer start on boot. Uncheck all programs that are not related to your antivirus program, or firewall.

Restart your computer. If this fixes your problem then you're good to go.

A couple good programs for keeping your system healthy..

ccleaner http://ccleaner.com cleans up cookies and checks registry

clean cache http://buttuglysoftware.com cleans up and repairs problems with cache.
