So if Michael Jordan's mom had him wherever he was born, and his genes said that he was going to be as tall as he is, but then he was shipped to a place in Africa with meager amnts of food, if he grows up malnutritioned, will he still be as tall as he is today because "genes" decided it for him when he was born?

We would be nowhere without our genes. We also need environmental circumstance including social relationships that allow us to reach our potential—our genetics seem to put a cap on our development.

No For some traits, genes define the potential, but the actual depends upon the environment. So, if he had been starved or malnourished as a child and adolescent, he probably would not have reached his full height.

i dont think so, because genes carry the initial information for what we will be like but the finished product is a combination of the genes and the environment we are raised in, so my guess is he would be tall, but not nearly as tall as he is

genes are the essentials, the soup you start with, what you do with those essentials, or your soup base, is up to you. for instance, you may not be gifted with the best math reasoning.......but you do have a brain, that brain can be worked and reason facts etc, learn....if you want to become a math whiz, that is entirely up to you and how hard you work. same with basketball......you do not have to be extra tall to play basketball, you just need skill and heart.....look at spuds, and he has had a good career, without all the things MJ had (tallness)
