I think coming to South Africa is a good choice. I know alot of foreigners who love SA and would love to come back. I actually have an American friend who is moving here at the end of the year. If you have the opportunity to go on holiday somewhere, I guess you may as well come here. I personally don't think you will be disappointed and you may even wana come back;) I have lived in SA my whole life and I love it more that anywhere else I have been in the world. If you do come you have a number of places to choose from to visit, including Sun City, I'm sure you've heard of it. The Kruger National Park which is a great place to go if you like animals-the animals live freely there and it's possible to even watch a kill happen before your eyes! Then we have Cape Town which has the famous Table Mountain and 'Lion's Head'-both very cool hikes. Then we have amusement parks such as Gold Reef City and Ratanga Junction. Gold Reef City is not just an amusement park but is based on an old mining site. They have tours down into the mines and the park consists of plenty other things such as hotels, shows, a circus, 'the gold pour' where you could watch how they make gold, a farm and lots more. If you're into adventure you have to go to the Drakensburg which is only +- 2 or 3 hours out of Johanneburg. They have great hikes there including overnight hikes. Then in the same area we have the Sindwala caves which is an amazing experience. For nightime we have strings of very enjoyable night clubs where you could most probably hook yourself up with a nice companion if you're interested into that;) Well otherwise, it is up to you to make your decision, but we hope to be seeing you in South Africa! And if you do make it here- A BIG WELCOME FROM ALL OF US:)

Beautiful Country with some really nice people. However it is over run with violent crime and now is not the time to visit. Many of the Tourist sites are real dangerous places to visit as Tourists are targets and it is unsafe to go out after dark. Shopping Malls are regularly attacked by armed gunmen firing wildly, car jackings are numerous and a woman is raped every 8 minutes according to their crime stats which few believe as they are understated. The Natal beaches are over run with Beach urchins begging and thieving and it is is not unusual for satanic rituals (slaughtering animals) to be practised before your very eyes on the beach. I dont know who you have been talking to but if it is the SA Tourism Industry you can be sure they will not mention crime as they are trying to cover up at every opportunity. Best you go to Google and put in South Africa crime and you will find plenty of sites forewarning you of the dangers. Maybe in time to come it will be OK again but for the present give it a big miss.

I just took my Family - 5 of us and a freind to SA. Had the most wonderful holiday. Joburg to be avoided. Tabel Mountain is great if weather is good. This is the season for the Cape Doctor. Go and enjoy but as usual be prepared for some shocks - everycountry has them and SA is no exception.

properly there's a huge crime subject... however the possibilities that your getting hit via that's approximately 10 %. that's no longer uncontrolled. i think of that's secure to bypass out to nighttime golf equipment... in basic terms shop an eye fixed out... do no longer take card from strangers. have self belief me. it may take your stay. do no longer walk out late.... and not on my own. additionally do no longer bypass into the restrooms on my own. bypass with a pair of acquaintances. even the entire bunch.. lol. 5 celeb places have intense protection... yet no longer the utmost. Safari is a exciting subject to do...... you could depart your stuff on the towel... in basic terms enable an eye fixed fall on it each so many times.... Crime is everywhere. you women could appreciate your stay.... you will love SA

South Africa has a very beautiful and varied landscape - you could say it has most of the World in a single country. It has an extensive coastline with plenty of scenic mountains as a backdrop. It also has high plains around Jo'burg and great scenery around the mountains near the Kruger National Park. You can find quiet places 1.5 hours North of CapeTown or near Cape Agulhas, which are unspoiled and have little crime. If you want a racier holiday then there's Durban, Cape Town or Sun City. I've never been to Durban myself, but my Uncle enjoyed a holiday there. I've been to SA 3 times before - twice to Cape Town, once doing the Garden Route (the highlights being Knynsa and Plettenberg Bay) and also spending 1 week in Jo'burg. I'm going back to Cape Town again for 10 days and then another 10 days in Bathurst (between Port Elizabeth and East London). I believe Cape Town is a must - you could easily spend 2 weeks seeing the sites around there: table mountain, the V&A waterfront, Robben Island, the nearby vineyards and going to Hermanus to spot whales. Jo'burg isn't that good - it is more for business than having a holiday. You can spend a day at Sun City and a couple of days around Pretoria, but Jo'burg itself isn't that spectacular and some areas are very deprived. I was married in SA (in Bathurst where my wife's parents have their holiday house). SA is great for eating out - good, cheap food with large portions of fish and meat. I've had crocodile, ostrich and loads of types of fish out there.
I've always found the South African people to be very friendly and eager to help. There are 2 major groups of white South Africans - some with English roots and some with Dutch roots. There does seem to be some good-humoured ill-feeling between the 2 parties (a bit like the Scots and the English). This is because of the Boer war, when the English put the Farmer's wives into concentration camps in an attempt to starve the farmers out. I'm Scottish and I married an Afrikaans woman, but luckily for me the Afrikaans people love the Scots and loathe the English! I do like the South African people (I have to say that as I married one!) They teld to smile more than people from the UK and I believe it is partially due to the beautiful surroundings and great weather. Even people in deprived areas get on with their life with a smile. There is a higher risk of violent crime in South Africa than in the UK, although I have never had any problems myself. This is the major downside with going to South Africa. I wouldn't recommend going looking like a tourist after dark in some built-up areas.
We have now bought a 1ha (2.5 acre) plot of land 1 mile from the sea just outside Gordon's Bay (20 minute drive from Cape Town airport). We are planning to emigrate there towards the end of 2007 and see how we get on there. We plan to build 3 houses - 1 for us to live in and 2 holiday cottages to rent out. We will also be trying to set-up a business out there and see if we can make enough to pay the bills. I believe that South Africa will become much more popular after the exposure from the 2010 football World cup.
If you plan to come to South Africa on holiday I would recommend that you try to take 3 or 4 weeks off work to really make it worth your while. London to Cape Town is around a 12 hour flight. Even so, you won't even see half of what the country has to offer. I have spent 7 weeks out there and still haven't been to the Drakensberg mountains, Durban or the Kruger National Park. There are lots of adventurous things to do in South Africa: there's shark cage diving (near Cape Town), bungee jumping off a very high bridge (on Garden Route at Storms River) and you can do tandem hangliding off table mountain. You can see wild animals in private nature reserves or at the Kruger. We took a helicopter trip and a sunset cruise from V&A waterfront out towards Hout Bay which I would highly recommend. Table mountain is a must see - my Mum loved up there and she even said we have to scatter her ashes there when she meets her maker.
