I have a valliant combi boiler, which seems to kick into action when i need hot water, but the heating isn't working at all. I have a switchmaster dial next to the boiler which allows me to specify when the heating should come on and go off but this seems to have no effect, even if I change the setting to constant. Any suggestions good people of the UK. I'm freezing my **** off :-( and I am worried in case it freezes and the pipes burst.
The radiators don't need bleeding and dont' heat up at all. Could this be an electrical problem rather than my boiler being knackered?

Call a plumber, I had this problem a couple of years ago, inside the boiler there is a valve/switch which allows either the central heating or hot water to work, when the switch fails (breaks) the boiler won't work properly and you only get either hot water or central heating.

What model of Vaillant boiler, and how old?? Is CH selected on the boiler control? Do you have a room thermostat, if so is it set high enough? If all these are ok, coud be the differential valve or servo valve/switch. Is there any noise at all from the boiler when you put the timer on? Pump or fan, any clicks??

I keep reminding people to always check the pump.
Put a screwdriver against it and listen like a doctor.
If no noise when "on" remove brass screw with a 2p coin, insert a small screwdriver and give it a flick either way, should start.
Don't panic about the dribbling its normal.

Check the pressure. It needs to be more than 1 bar.
