I'm not sure if he was the last but the last one I remember was Nicolae Ceausescu, President of Romania who was shot on Christmas Day 1989 during the revolution of that year. He was executed immediately after the trial and footage was actually shown on BBC television that day.

I think you are asking "when was the last time a world renowned leader was executed?" We have never had a "leader of the world".
My serious guess is Saddam will never be executed. It is just a matter of time until wide spread civil war breaks out in that country. If Iran sides with the Sunnis and the Sunnis win it is not inconceivable that Saddam could be in power again Iran would do that just to rub the USA's face in the sand.

If you are asking this because of Saddam Hussein's verdict..he is not a "World Leader". He was a vicious Dictator.

I can't think of one. They either die by their own hand, pass away before judgment can be render or are murdered in a coup.
One could argue Nicolae CeauÅescu, but it, in my opinion, falls under the banner of a coup

I think 1989. That's when they executed that Romanian leader, Cheseau, or however it's spelled.

It would have been Milosovic, but he died from a heart attach, before the trial was over.
