Question goes even deeper: Is it right to kill anyone in the name of the law? Sadam certainly qualifies for the sentence under current guidelines. But, in his case, like any case, is anyone really sending a powerful message telling others to avoid this type behavior or you will be killed? Would Sadam evenly remotely had considered doing things differently.

So is the death penalty a crime deterent. Or, is it more a tool for emotional revenge? When I was younger I used to strongly believe in the death penalty. But now, I wonder if the whole ball of wax ever even slightly affects capital crime. "Have to get caught, trials and appeals last several years, greater than even chance of getting life, some even accept their fate.

But to answer your question - he got what the law said the punishment must be... right or wrong!

He is almost 70 years old and what is the point in chopping off his head and why do we feel euphoric about his verdict. He lived his whole life the way he wanted. But unnecessarily killing him will only add fuel to already ablazing terrorism. Even if he left pardoned he will die natural death after 2 or 3 year. This will only encourage terrorism and cause for birth of more terrorists. He is already dead snake. World saw the determination of terrorists who drove airplane into WTC. We see everyday lot of suicide attacks. They are ready to give their lives for their cause.Killing of saddam is not going to be crime deterent . But it may satisfy the collective conscience of people world over by killing a dictator who committed crime against humanity. But we should be very careful about the aftermath.

He is no martyr and nobody thinks of it that way because hes not really a lot religious, he was just so (as many other are in the middle east) to have power over others. He is no martyr and he should be tortured and die slowly like he did so many others.

If we do right, ethical and human justice to any politician, 99.99% would be awarded with death penalty only.
