Autrey was a slightly earlier era than Rogers. During my childhood we would go and see Roy rogers and the Sons of the Pioneers at the Saturday matinee. Autrey had invested his earnings in property and retired by then.

Two things I remember about Roy Rogers. He never kissed Dale Evans. Gabby Hayes was the real star of the movies.

Of the two, Gene Autrey is probably more famous because he was the first singing cowboy.

I'd say Roy Rogers based on the fact that more people recognize his name today and know he was a singing cowboy. Plus, I think the Roy Rogers Show was more popular than Gene Autry's.

I remember Roy Rogers, Autry and equipment Carson yet no longer Bob Steele or Alan Lane. something plenty older than those courses and that i'd have had to observe them as reruns.yet I did see a great style of Flash Gordon movies.

My personal preference growing up in the 50's and 60's was Roy Rogers.

Your question prompted me to do a search on Autry and Rogers and I found the delightful sites below. Looking at them was like being transported to my childhood livingroom in the 50's. Thanks!
