When my mother passed away, I appreciated my friends just coming. I didn't expect them to bring anything. They drove 2 hours to be there. That meant a lot to me. Just them coming to give me a hug supporting me was I needed. They didn't even know her. You being normal and supportive is what your friend needs. If your friend needs anything else from you, I am sure he/she will ask. Just ask him/her if they need anything from you.

If it is a last minute need, be unique, bring a music CD that has songs of joy, remembrance, and happiness that when listened too can be calming (to remember the deceased in a passionate matter, love and memories) and some upbeat music (to remember the "fun" goofy times that may have taken place). Anything that brings good memories for the friend. A song, a candle (certain smells trigger memories) or a certain food...anything to keep the memories alive. Offer time to spend with your friend to be there if she/he needs an extra hand with something. My condolences.

I think, all you need to bring is yourself.

Be there for your friend, and keep him/her company, cheer him/her up, and well, just be there for them.

When my Mom passed on, that's all I needed.
