Oh dear, what have you been upto ?
The police do have the right to sieze records for your on-line activity. There is no UK legal requirement for ISPs to keep these records in any great detail. Many do keep details but the depth of which is kept secret so as not to compramise ISP security.
If the police suspect you of something, and then say to the ISP "give me all your got on the history of this person" its unlikely to contain much detail, maybe login-out details and top level domain names
You are more likely to be caught by a police investigation suspecting your on-line activity and then them putting IP recorders inthe ISPs, all under the control of a court order.
The police rarely bring a conviction for "activity" on-line. It would have to result in some external evidence such as stuff on your own PC, credit card payments etc.

If they have a warrant, yes. Your ISP keeps a record and has to hand it over to an investigation; Yahoo will co-operate; and your pc has a record of your activities as well. Even re-formatting won't erase info on your hard drive and overwriting isn't guaranteed to work either.
They're not guaranteed to find everything you've ever done. But if you're up to no good, doing it from a pc is asking to get caught.

Wow! Lot of people above said that police can find out what you ever done online. it is near impossible. If you frequently delete your search and browse history, no one will be able to get details of what you did online. Also, you have to delete temporary and recent files.
Even if they can, it would cost them a lot. I think they will only agree to spend that much if they suspect that you were passing information from white house, or hacking their computers.
Google has pretty much details of what a person everyday searches on Google. They can tell you what you searched on Google ever. BUT, Google, Yahoo and other search sites are obliged to keep internet users privacy, they would never pass your search history to anyone at any cost. This is their privacy policy.
So, it is almost impossible to find out "everything" you done online.
Also, if you delete anything completely from your pc, it's gone forever. There is no way to find out whether it was on your pc.

Yes and No.
if you don't use a secure erase system there will be residuals left on your computers hard drive.
there are programs out there that are designed to eliminate your past visits and activities on line from your hard drive.
if you don't use them, then yes. if you do use them .... almost no. recovery of files can be very expensive and time consuming. Usually not very cost effective for the police.
of course this does not affect the ISP recording by court order.

Yes. Google (and all other search engines) are required by law to retain all searches made by everyone for a minimum period. And that period is very long. Your IP address is logged and because your ISP is required to retain a record of every IP address you have been issued with the connection can be made easily.
