Potluck supper and Wine Tasting. Everyone brings food and everyone brings a different bottle of wine to try. Or exotic beers, or whatever you like to drink.

I would rent a cottage on the coast, if you are in South Wales then maybe Cornwall or Devon. I know it seems crazy to be on the coast in Winter, but I went to Whitby (where Bramstoker wrote Dracula) on the North Yorkshire coast a few years ago with a big bunch of friends, and we had such a great time - just all mucked in and made a big feast and played some stupid childish games.

There is something great about being wrapped up warm and going for a walk on a blustery coastline on New Years Day, and then heading to the pub for some fresh fish & chips in front of an open fire - completely blows away any hangover, and the cobwebs from the old year!

I really avoid flying anywhere for NYE - basically because the airports are rammed, and you get completely ripped off on the cost of travel.

Have a fantastic time, whatever you do!

You could have a time capsule party. Have everyone bring some items, like a photo, a motto, anything really, but make sure it is somewhat small. The bigger the items, the bigger the capsule has to be. If all items are real small like photos would be, you can use a large oatmeat container, like the big quaker oats cardboard one. You may want something sturdier like a tin popcorn container, it's larger too. Decorate it any way you want prior to new years, or decorate it at the party. You can probably do a web search for time capsule and get ideas.

A few years ago a group of us went up onto a nearby mountain from where we could see all the fireworks going off from miles. Everyone brought something to eat and drink and we just had a laugh.

Sit in a circle (Thats a ring) and pass around a can of beer each having a sip in turn... at midnight you could open the can to liven things up a bit, all shout out Yaccydah and go home to bed. Sounds like a real bunch of fun in taffyland...............

Fly to Amsterdam - they like to celebrate a bit more noisily than in Wales - eg with firecrackers. It's not far by plane
