Here in the UK we seem to hand out benefits to all the assorted scroungers without too many questions.
Is it about time we tore apart and revamped the whole system.
Several examples:
benefits would be given only to those who GENUINELY need it. and for a limited period. too many spongers see benefits as a way of life
If your unemployed you get basic help for a maximum of 3 months then your on your own..Anyone can find a job, may not be your frst choice but there are jobs!
council housing should be emergency housing and tennants have a maximum of 18 months, the houses should not be sold to tennants either.
the more services you use, the more tax you pay.
I'm single with no children yet pay for schools, youth clubs etc etc.. yet there is not a single benefit to which i'm entitled.
the NHS would be revamped also, there would be the option to opt out of paying national insurance in order to go private or insured. Also N.I contributions would cover full dental and optical costs.

Four rules I would add to any welfare system are...
If you are a minor and get pregnant, you are not entitled to any welfare. Your parents, the father and his parents are responsible. No exceptions. If the father refuses to pay, he should be neutered. No exceptions.
If you are of age and get pregnant and want to go on welfare it will be mandatory that you are spaded. If the father refuses or can't pay, he should be neutered. You have acted like an animal and should be treated like one. People who can't take responsibility for their own actions shouldn't be allowed to procreate. No exceptions.
Immigrants should not get any welfare, social services or tax exemptions at all. If you want to be a part of a different country then you should contribute to it. All these church groups that help immigrants come into a country should be forced to support them. You brought them here, you take financial responsibility for them or they will be shipped back at your expense. No exceptions.
Any elderly or handicapped must show exactly where their assets went before receiving aid of any kind. I have seen too often where senior citizens have sold their homes and assets, turned the money over to their kids and then went to live on welfare as a way to beat the system. What is that but letting the tax payer support your parents when you should be doing it?

i'm not from the UK, but you sound like a good fiscal conservative. =D>
if peeps like you and me didn't pay for the schools, they wouldn't have adequate cash. it's the right thing to do, and politicians are always going to make us. sorry....
welfare reform should definitely be reformed though. it's too much of a rubber stamped bureacracy, at least in the US anyway. you want some free cash? here ya go! there's plenty to go around! we're running half trillion dollar deficits here, but have no problem paying for your beer and cigarettes! china will gladly lend us money! and never want it back! probably.....
as for the job market, things happen. i was throwing up at work the other day, and they expected me to keep at it. so i told them where to stick it and walked out the door! do i get free money? i quit so no. and i don't want charity from anyone anyway. but, even if i had less pride and wanted the money, this is a better case for unemployment checks then most the ones that actually get it. maybe they should make it based on situation, rather than a broadly defined policy. it already is for the most part here, but it could be improved by a lot.

My wife and I have spent most of our lives working and both made provision for when and if we could not,My wife is a retired nurse and I a retired paramedic, because we both have pensions we cannot claim a lot of the benefits we could if we had not worked,in fact its the other way round most if not all our money goes to pay bills,We both feel we have been betrayed by the country we gave so much for.We are worse off than the scroungers and spongers,The UK is no longer a country to be proud of,Its cruel.

I have been out of work for about four months now, and I find the jobseekers system far too soft. I think they should monitor job seekers more carefully. They should ask them to provide evidence to prove they are actively looking for work e.g. photocopies or extra printouts of application forms, copies of cover letters, contact details and feedback from interviewers. Anyone who provides evidence they are searching for less than three jobs a fortnight, or not providing the evidence at all, should not receive their benefits, or a reduced amount. That should put a poker up the butts of those scrotes who think it's funny to have their houses and bills paid for them, and scrounge off the rest of society.
Also, private landlords should be made to provide tenants with essential documents, otherwise action can be taken against them for failing to provide vital information.
I'm looking for work really hard, but I'm not on housing benefit, AND I'm paying council tax! How badly does that suck!?

I think the UK should start out small. Stop rubber stamping immigration to muslims who come there for no other reason but to wage jihad and stop putting them all on the dole. Cancel all welfare for muslims and deport them. That would fix your main problem and prevent what is happening in france right now (and to a lesser extent in belgium, germany, sweden and God knows where else).
There are other effective ways to discriminate against problem people and still keep your system intact. Regularly drug test all people on welfare and cancel it for those who test positive. Let them re-appy 6 months later if they clean up their act. Permanently rescind welfare for anyone convicted of a violent crime. Take all the money you save and put it into programs to put people back into the working world....education and job placement.
There are two types of people who use welfare....legitimate and illegitimate. Legitimate ones DON'T LIKE BEING ON WELFARE unless there is no other way. They don't cause problems and they do use programs designed to help them get a job and normalize their lives. Give these people anything and everything you can in the way of resources. This pays for itself in the end as these people re-enter productive lives, if they can.
Illegitimate people are easy to spot. They cause problems....constantly. The cops are always over there. They are doing and selling drugs, prostituting, committing violent crime and the like. Punish them harshly and continuously and be very strict about giving them NOTHING and it goes a loooooong way toward fixing the problem.
Don't import poverty (and worse) through abuse of immigration and don't enable problem people through abuse of the welfare system is the main issue. And don't vote for socialists as these people purposefully do both of the above in order to make democracy not work and hopefully replace it with communism (look how successful these people have been in france). That Red Ken guy isn't just an embarrassment. He is a real danger to your safety and well being, not to mention your way of life.

It's easy to say that from your perspective. What about the thousands of families that depend on that money for Christmas? Have a heart, don't be a Scrooge.
If you lose your job and are on the receiving end of it, you won't be so hard on unemployed people then.

I agree. But I bet it is worse here in the US. I am married, we make a middle income, and we go broke on paying for insurance, college money, taxes. Meanwhile deadbeats on welfare will get back tax dollars they did't even pay in.
I believe social services have their place, but the abuse is outrageous.

Keeping people on welfare is good if you want to feel superior like me. Give them just enough to keep them begging for more.
