NEW DELHI: There is more to the art of making a drink than just mixing, shaking or stirring it right. And if Tom Cruise gave cinema lovers a glimpse of the stylised way in his famous "Cocktail'', this week brings to town bartenders who can literally put the bar on fire.

An intoxicating profession that has kept many addicted to it, bringing the best of bartenders to the Capital this Thursday will be the Bar Wizards Challenge. Spread over three days, the contest will have nearly 70 contestants from across the country competing for the title of "The Bar Wizard 2005" and a cool prize of Rs. 50,000.

Organised by the Institute of Bar Operations and Management (IBOM) in collaboration with E Factor Entertainment Pvt Ltd, the annual event is part of an ongoing process to create awareness about bartending as a profession and to showcase existing talent in India. Judging the event will be a technical jury of Anuska Illijic, an ace Mixologist from Bosnia, and Rohan Carvalho, the Bar Wizards Champion in 2003.

Keeping the spirits high will be added features that have been introduced to make the event focus on broader issues. From seminars on the art of flair bartending to a symposium on Training in Intervention Procedure by Servers of Alcohol (TIPS) to astounding flair performances, the competition is expected to serve as a breeding ground for national and international talent.

The organisers believe the event will show them the heights that can be achieved by pursuing the profession.
