Does the existence of earthquakes support the theory of plate tectonics? Speculate on how moving plates might cause earthquakes.

Can you help me speculate and expand on this?

In some areas of the world the tectonic plates press against each other with some amount of pressure. When the pressure grows too great, there is movement in one particular spot, which is then known as the epicenter. A small amount of movement is a small earthquake; a large amount equals a major earthquake. It is a terrifying experience to be in a major earthquake -- that's why I moved away from Los Angeles.

Yes, earthquakes will be produced when tectonic plate collide and start building pressure. At some point the pressure will be relieved. Then it is an earthquake.

What is there to speculate? It looks like your tv program looks more like an open ended homework question.

Yes. tectonic movements does cause earthquakes, when the moving plates collide with each other. Speculation is as good as weather forecast.

I agree completely with Jeet. When the plates collide, earthquakes, volcanoes and tsunamis occur. Moutian ranges also form. The point is, plate tectonics are what keeps our earth alive.

The Earth as we know it is a floating mass of a layer of all of earths elements called the crust . it has many sections that float on a sea of magma(the stuff lava is made from). this slow motion moving is what occasionally causes them to rub together causing the friction we fell as earthquakes.the sections are called the tectonic pl,ates.
It is believed that billions of years ago all of the continents were as one until the plates began to split apart creating our current configuration of land masses. even as we blink an eye a movement in those plates has happened .
