My hubby (Jamaican/caribbean) dissent, always critises "small island people", as he puts it, dominican / Barbados etc......very weird, but from what I can gather its just the same as say us English always tell a good Scottish, Irish joke, just banter, not real hatred....I hope not anyway

My boyfriend and his family (African origin) once told me this:
Caribbean and African people sometimes don't get on well, because Caribbean people are said to be sold by African people as slaves to white people long time ago, so some Caribbeans dislike Africans because of that. It is also said that the people sold for Caribbean slavery were prisoners or criminals at the time, or Africans were tricked into selling people to white people without understanding what they were doing fully. But is is also said that they were just taken, without being sold, so some African people don't like when Caribbean people get upset because of what happened. That might be the reason for the argument of 'Caribbeans dislike Somalians (or Africans)'

A generalisation perhaps. An ex-girlfriend of mine was of Somalian Carribian dissent so it can't always be true. She didn't beat herself up, she saved that priviledge for me. (Joking !!! )
(I meant she beat me up )
