I think to a certain degree it can be a choice. If we keep a positive outlook on life and try to see the bright side when bad things happen, we can mitigate some of the bad feelings that naturally arise. On the other hand, I think it can also be biological. People with low levels of certain chemicals (seratonin for example) in their brain tend to be more depressed.

Yes, but it is difficult to be and think happy thoughts when u have a medical or mental condition that consumes u. Barring your physically and mentally well, then it's absolutely a choice.

Happiness is a state of mind, where one is positive in outlook, look on the bright side of life, help others along the way.
I don't even think of being sad, even when things don't go according to plan, I have so much to live for.

certainly, happiness is relative, and what pleases one makes another frown and the pursuit of happiness is what keeps us going. A more practical view would see fate as a questionable choice.

if you are psychologically healthy you can choose to be happy and act that way and it becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.
If you are not healthy phychologically, you are not able to make that choice and you are happy sad or elated based on phycical demands/forces within you.
