sure. I had a pc capacity furnish fried throughout the time of a thunder typhoon even as the computer became off. I smelled the burning insulation after I walked contained in the room. To be safer, plug all abode equipment into surge protectors. To be quite secure, unplug each and every thing in the course of the typhoon. I were given a surge protector for the computer, yet not a good one. and that i do not unplug something. It hasn't ever befell back so i wager one $40 capacity furnish each and every 10 or 20 years isn't undesirable.

Yes. I know someone whose computer blew its processor from a nearby lightning strike. Modern chips are so small, and run on such minute amounts of electricity that the static on your skin would blow them if you touched them with your bare hand. Lightning flashes have electric fields reducing from megavolts to nothing over a few tens of feet surrounding them, and although a strike next to your house might not hurt you, unless you were standing on a wet floor in bare feet, a difference of hundreds of volts between one side of your computer and the other could easily fry its chips.
