Eamonn Holmes got his own quiz show but it's been cancelled after one episode - so famous there for all the wrong reasons.
Ann Robinson did the Weakest Link over there and got paid a fortune.
John Cleese and all the Monty Python lot are massive.
Cat Deeley presents some show in the US and I think Vernon Kaye did something as well (bit vague I know)

Ditto to what everyone else has said. Rolling Stones. That Bean guy. Benny Hill. Is he dead? Those adorable twin girls that were on "The Suite Life of Zach and Cody". My favorite (living) British imports are Sean Connery, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley. I don't want to offend, but does it include the Irish? What about Bono. Who could be more cool and famos than him?!

Money. I have toured with a theatre show to the USA and was on American Equity rates for the two weeks I was there. The pay was way more than back home. I can imagine that if anyone gets a TV show or film, they are quids in.
