The chances that big oil has tried to influence the election by selling cut rate gas are pretty high. I am sure they can see that a Republican House and Senate is definitely an advantage to them. As is, the the Dems will make some gains, but no where near what they would if gas was above $3.
I don't think they would let it be so obvious by letting the price rise to $3 by Jan 1. But, $3 by July 1, 2007? Very likely.

I predict that Gas prices will go over 3$ a gallon should Democrats win the house and senate so that the Republicans can claim things were better when they had total control in the next Presidential election cycle. If the American public is really stupid which I believe they are and they vote the Republicans back into office look for Gas prices to go over 3 $ a gallon and then come down again for the Presidential election just like they did this time around. You have to remeber that the Oil companies don't want Democrats in office because they will push for energy independance.

Every year at this time election or not gas prices tend to be lower as the winter demand increases the price will go up. Gas prices will not reach $3 a gal. until mid-spring. Though they will begin to rise in a short time.

There's no correlation between the time of the election and gas prices. Gas goes up in the spring into summer - the driving season, when demand is higher.

No significant increase until Spring, 2007. Gas prices go up every spring, and they come down every Fall. Haven't you been paying attention?
