Any suggestions regarding what is the best way to do this? I am a grad student and wish to send money back to India at regular intervals. Some of the things I am thinking of are

Direct wire transfers of cash to a specified bank account or through a telegraph office are commonplace for sending money to various countries overseas. Talk to your local bank also to see if something can be arranged for your family using a bank in their town in India for direct transfers through the banks. There will be fees involved but they are generally not too high. You can also use money orders and certified bank checks as well if the postal system in your family's area is reliable.
