I am awaiting the release of the PS3 in the UK. I have recently been comparing prices in differant countries and the UK are charging around £200 more compared to Japan and the U.S.A. Why is this?

two reasons.
1) The UK import these items making them more expesive
2) 17.5% VAT is also payable.

There are lots of factors. The main ones are import and sales taxes (this is the amount the EU and UK governments add to the cost of the item) and exchange rates (the pound is stronger than many other currencies including the US dollar and the Yen).

Companies also tend to set their prices based on how much they think customers are prepared to pay for the items they sell, and not necessarily how much the items are worth. Perhaps Sony thinks British consumers are prepared to pay more for the PS3 than American and Japanese consumers?

Years ago it was said,"The Sun never sets in the British Empire". How? You can understand it if you knew history.

because they know they can get away with it. tax and all that rubbish. just get one shipped in, its probably still cheaper with postage added on. this country is obsessed with having the right gadgets at the right time therefor we all rush out to get it before anyone else we know might have it, if we didnt then maybe things would start to lower in price

if people didnt rush out & buy this stuff, the manufacturers would have to drop prices!!
