It could be that you are watering it too much. If you water a plant too much then, it will start turning brown like that all over and the roots will start to rot due to lack of oxygen. Normally it's best to wait till the ground feels dry to the touch before watering again. Also, you want a pot that will allow the excess water to drain away so that your plant roots aren't sitting and drowning in excess water. You may also want to check to see if there are any bug infestations that the plant is prone to online or at your local plant store.

these type of plants dont like to be moved i presume you wipe the leaves with a damp cloth "water only" not polish, also drafty area wont help, they do like constant warmth, but can withstand tropical storms,it will regrow new leaves after it disguards any that arn't healthy.

coconut palms are tropical trees. The reason why you don't see them on the beaches in Brighton is because it's too cold!

What you describe sounds like inconsistant watering symptom. aerate...poke holes in the dirt around it and water with mild solution of fertilizer. good luck

small flies? sounds like root rot and the flies are like fruit flies... call your local gardening store and ask..
... do you own a cat?.. could the cat be urinating in it?

I would repot it in new soil. Maybe there is something rotting in your soil. You also could be watering it too much.
