Why don't any of the politicians in the republic have any shame
Virtually none of them have ever resigned over the corrupt dealings and backscratching that has gone on for the last 50 years
Look at the names being hauled through the tribunals
Developers giving sweeteners
Berties cash bungs, (amatuerish for Charlie though)
McCreevey and his cronies and the Horse stud tax farce
Even other politicians open there mouths under Dail privalige and prejudice court procecutions against fellow party members (wasn't that a coincidence Mary !)
Jeeeesus they'd resign in England over un unpaid bus fare at this stage (not that you'd see 2 Jags on a bus even when he was Transport)
Any views?

Like any state or politics it is corrupt. The Irish nation has a formidable 'old boy network', we have one too, but I have always felt that in general the Irish tend to look after each other more than the British, therefore it could also be a cultural thing.

Of course the British have had their scandals too, the press in the UK are a good watchdog. I have always held the impression that the Irish press are more weak is that respect - I am I wrong?

Also the republic like to rally against the injustices of the old colonial power - it looks as if the republic set up by De Valera and Collins has caught up with its nemisis. But this would not look good to the romantic eyed Irish Americans now would it?

I am not really suprised that it is like this Bertie has been PM forever, it seems like the same faces have been in Irish politics for decades now. They do say...power corrupts and corrupts absolutley.

I think it is a general truth that the longer a government or people are in power the more corrupt they become due to their complacency of being in power - look at the tories in the 1980's or Labour now.

Of course they have no shame! Why should they? Irish voters have the attention span of a goldfish!
By the next election they will be taken in by the same lies again :D

as an Irishman i am thouroughly ashamed ofthe behavior of most of our politicians, with a few notable exceptions they seem to think that the laws and morality were designed for other people and not for them .I owe no political allegiance to any political party but Fianna fails action in granting a state funeral to Charles Haughey (surely the most corrupt politician in Irish history)must surely be the single most outrageous and cynical action in Irish politics

I won't imply that I know what's going on in Ireland in politics right now, but I know what's happening in Greece. And if it makes you feel any better, politicians are trained to have no shame anyway. It's like this and it will always be I'm afraid, at least as long as we allow them to.
