what on earth is anyone gonna do on a plane???!!! not exactly a good escape route when the child starts screaming its head off is there???!!! you are right tho, i recently answered a question about a guy who is getting a hard time for wanting to work with children, apparently its a "woman's job" so he must be a pervert!! shocking the way some people think!!! but your right, its not just men who are abusers. i suppose its just that the majority of those who have been caught are men that make them seem more of a threat. its sad i know.

I didn't know about this, but if it's true it's taking things a bit far.
It is true that most people who abuse children are male (even taking on board the Myra Hindley/Rose West argument).
BUT the fact remains that VERY few men are a risk to children, and to have a rule like this seems to me to be very insulting to men.
My guess is that some idiot in the airline management has decided the airline might get sued in the unlikely event that something unsavoury did happen on one of their flights.

This has been common policy on New Zealand airlines for some time. Whats the big deal? If my daughter was under 16, I would prefer she sat next to a woman on a flight. Its not accusing anyone of anything. Its the same thing when muslims say when they are singled out for searching, it doesnt mean you are being accused, its just having measures in place. This is the world we live in now, so get use to it!

I think you'll find statistically Myra Hindly and Rose West are two of a miniscule percentage of abusers. They shock us so much because.................... they are women.
Men commit more crimes than women. In 2002 male offenders in England and Wales outnumbered female offenders by more than four to one.
Men outnumber women in all major crime categories. Between 85 and 95 per cent of offenders found guilty of burglary, robbery, drug offences, criminal damage or violence against the person are male. Although the number of offenders are relatively small, 98 per cent of people found guilty of, or cautioned for, sexual offences are male.
Men are more likely to be the victims of violent crime than women. Over 5 per cent of men and just under 3 per cent of women aged 16 and over in England and Wales were the victims of some sort of violence in the twelve months prior to interview in 2002/03. Men and women aged 16 to 24 are the most at risk age group. Around 15 per cent of men and 7 per cent women of this age reporting that some sort of violence had been used against them.
Despite being more likely to be the victim of crime, men are less worried than women about most types of crime. Women are between two and three times more likely than men to be very worried about being mugged or physically attacked and five times more likely than men to be very worried about being raped.
The airline is correct to assume that if any assault is going to be made on a 'child' on their airline - - - it will be a male offender.
My question to you would be - why does it offend YOU so much? If it HAS been a problem on this airline before, then they are taking the necessary precaution. They do not have seats especially for unaccompanied children that are floating in empty space on the plane - so they have to sit beside someone. Considering the statistics don't lie, they are much safer sitting next to women.

I was in a UK shop recently and it had women's changing rooms downstairs, and upstairs was a joint men's and children's changing room. However, if there were men in the changing rooms children couldn't go in until the man had come out (even if the kids were with their parent). Madness as men and women abuse children. It is a sad world that we live in but people want to protect their children and it's understandable when you watch the news and see what happens.

A child shouldnt be sitting on their own anyway ....... if a mother or father has so many kids that there isnt any other way he should have all kids on seats next to each other and him on his own or between him and the passenger.

that is completely stupid. what can a guy do to a child on an airoplane anyway!!!!!!! and women are as likely as men to do such things it is not only a stupid rule to enforce but higly sexist. and it should be stopped. men do not deserve to be put on a stand that says such a thing when the majority are innocent!!!!!!

I would prefer not to sit next to anyone on a plane, but if it is necessary, I would prefer it to be someone who is not going to invent mad stories.
