My son is three and a half and his sister is nearly two. We get undressed in front of them and see no shame in the human body. I don't want it to be a taboo subject, and if they have questions about areas of my body or my husband's, then we will answer them in language which is appropriate for their age. My son knows that I have boobies(!) and my daughter knows that her brother has a willy and she doesn't.

I think it's important that there is no stigma for them in their own bodies or those of other people. When they get older I will ask them to respect my privacy (as I get none whatsoever at the moment!), but until then, we're all quite happy with the situation.

I would say around the time when you notice signs of puberty, as by then they will probably be more aware and self-conscious about their bodies and will appreciate and respect the right to privacy/private time. However, the other respondants were right when they said that you shouldn't make children feel ashamed or embarrassed about nudity either. Around this stage, you should also explain that their bodies belong to them and that no-one has the right to do anything to them that makes them feel uncomfortable (and I mean NO-ONE). By the way, in response to those people say why the age limit, it's because of potential abuse! I'm not saying that all parents do it (far from it) but it's part of teaching children respect and making them aware that unfortunately we live in a wicked world!

Hope this answers your question!

My aunt and uncle have no problem with being naked in front of their children. I know that my cousin was seeing her naked up until he was about 10 (He is male) it was never deliberate, if he had something to ask her and she was getting dressed/undressed, he would see her semi,or fully naked. Its not something deliberate but if he happens to see his parents naked, ie, getting in/out of a bath then it happens. He is very comfortable with his body and has no hang ups about his appearance and I think this is because of his parents relaxed attitude to being naked. Why is there an age limit?

In our culture and also in a nudist setting it is never a wise thing to disrobe in front of children, unless it is performed with a degree of dignity as a way of demonstating modesty. To do otherwise is to invite unnatural feelings spurn out of natural curiosity.

If you have grown up with the view that the naked human body is shameful and should be hidden, and you still hold that view, then that is what you will project onto your children, sometimes without even realizing it.

As others have said, it comes down to how you feel about yourself and how your children feel..

The human body is nothing to hide from a child. If i am dressing, and one of my children enters the room, it is no problem They don`t even notice, because they are comfortable with seeing me or my hubby semi naked, if they enter the room. I do not think it is healthy, to hide away from a child, or yell them to get out, if you are showering or dressing, this gives the message, there is something wrong with the naked body, or they are doing something wrong.

my kids are 12, 9 and 3. They dont mind seeing me in the nude, they often come into the bathroom when i am showering or see me dressing. Its no big deal, if the child is uncomfortable they would say something!!

When they start talking too much and go tell other people about what you look like nude. I would say around 3 or so, it depends on the child.

I might be old fashioned but i dont think you should undress in front of any child. I suppose that is down to my moral values.
