While the idea is not too bad, unfortunately there are not that much countries cpable of competing in international level. ICC are trying to develop cricket in the Associated Member countries. In the coming world cup only 16 teams will be playing. If ICC mnage to develop the gme in another 8 coun tries by 2011, your suggestion may materialise, who knows?

Terrible idea..even 16 teams is way too many.
The tournament drags on for a month with a lot of pointless, uncompetitve matches that no-one cares about and de-values the whole thing.
I'm all for expanding the game worldwide, but that is what the ICC Trophy is for... and the best teams in that ALREADY get entry into the World Cup to compete against the full Test nations.
The way to expand interest in the game is not to allow Australia to humiliate Nepal in a match lasting one hour..which is what would happen. Ntaions like Nepal have to play competive matches against sides they stand a fair chance of beating. Hence the ICC Trophy.

Poor idea
2007 world cup will have 16 teams in pool play. 10 test playing nations, 9 really, zimbabwe are still out.
Scotland, Netherlands, Bermuda, Canada, Ireland and Kenya are the rest.
Every game against one of those teams will in all probably be a one sided slog fest, or over in 40 overs. These games are so one-sided and pointless, that the crowd does not show up, the players do not want to play them and does nothing to promote the sport.
And you want more of these games? More countries playing in a world cup will not help expand the game. More quality matches will, it will get people interested in the game, because they watched a fun, exciting and interesting sporting event.
In the USA, Nepal, China, you have to grow it from the grass roots, you have to get people playing the game first, world cup play will not matter, these teams have no hope of doing anything other than getting embarrased at a world cup, and that will not help the sports growth in those countries.

Well bro I don't agree with U coz we saw the Qualifying stages of The ICC Champions Trophy & we came to know the differences between the top 8 teams & other teams ( Bangladesh & Zimbabwe). Well we could well do with a Second league in which u can give Nepal , Kenya , US , Bermuda etc to play with Bangladesh & Zimbabwe & can give them births in World Cup's according to their performances in the four years between two WC's
And we would be better off expanding the 20/20 World Cup of to 20 or even 24 teams instead of expanding the ODI WC
Well this was my view can't say 'bout the others

I consider 20 communities. No element leaping to sixteen. If we do, then the likes of Romania, Namibia, Georgia, Portugal etc won't get a shot on the journey, and all of us know how plenty they have disillusioned and examined the a number of extra desirable countries so a methods. Judging by skill of recent overall performance by skill of the so called 'little adult men' i think of for my area that the IRB may well be stupid to lessen it to sixteen.

No it should stay as it is. Until teams are proven performers, they should not be allowed entry. The tournament doesn't start to get interesting until all the qualifiers are gone

all teams have their chances ofparticipating the worldcup but they need to perform in the matches they play apart from world cup. these matches are actually their qualifying matches and teams are rated on their ondays playesd. based on these ratings the top twenty teams are selected.
