My car is a couple years older than what is listed as e85 compatible. Will it hurt it any? What if I get half e85 and half regular gasoline? I know that in the 1980s ethanol mix was sold for all cars and I never had problems then. (e85 is up to 20 cents less here)

You should not use E85 unless you have a car that is specifically designed to run on E85. Cars that run on E85 are often referred to as Flexible Fuel Vehicles (FFV). These cars can also run on standard unleaded gasoline. Most of the FFV cars I've seen have a label on the inside of the gas lid that say something about the car being able to run on ethanol.

A little background may be in order based on the other responses you've received.

First, standard unleaded has 0% ethanol.

E85 means 85% alcohol (maximum). Don't burn this unless your car is designed to handle it.

Most of the ethanol blends are E10 (10% alcohol). This is what you see with most unleaded blends like Unleaded Plus, etc that say they contain ethanol. This will work in all cars.

It's not a matter of 100% E85. E85 is by definition not 100% alcohol. It's 85% alcohol.

You could have a problem with "O" rings in your injectors using e85. The cars in the 80's were all carbed and didn't have to worry about that.

I am sure that any care will run on a blend of 20% E 85. Are they pumping 100% E 85. You should check the blend. Rarely do they sell 100% Ethonol. In cold weather cars will not start with 100%. In Brazil they carry two tanks. One small like 2 gallon tank with gas will start they car. After that they switch to the 100% ethonol tank
