competition for ratings! this is what louis walsh said about strictly come dancing:

X Factor star Louis Walsh has mocked rival entertainment show Strictly Come Dancing.

"It's for grannies who have lost the remote control down the back of the sofa and can't get up to change channel," he told the Sunday Mirror. "And people in hospitals who don't have any choice!"

The judge also jokingly claimed that the BBC's crafty scheduling techniques help Strictly to steal viewers from X Factor.

"Both shows are scheduled to start at 5.45pm," Walsh explained. "But Strictly Come Dancing keeps going on air five minutes earlier to trap viewers."

They are competing for ratings, which The X Factor is winning by the way. What I do is tape The X Factor and watch Strictly Come Dancing then when I watch The X Factor later I can fast forward all the adverts.

it obivous, they are both slotted into prime time television to compete for ratings, they are both on just after most people have just had thier dinner and before they go out, it would be sill y if one channel was show one of these reality shows and the other was showing old reruns, what would you watch, personally i am not a great fan of these reality shows but must admitt that i have watched the x factor this year, these programs wouldnt be running if the british public did not like them

Its only because they know people have to choose one or the other, so the choose is danceing or singing. Most people would chose the danceing because the singing is bad. I still love X-factor VOTE LEONA TO STAY SIMON YOU HAVE A WINNER ON YOUR HANDS. BRAP BRAP

Because BBC1 and ITV1 are in competition with each other for ratings... They are two of the most popular shows, so its basically a head-on fight.

That's why I have Sky Plus!
