If this is your first baby...and it seems it is, keep in mind that the first baby your wife has ...labour and delivery could take hours to progress. Usually if her contractions are about 7 to 5min apart...(time from the end of one contraction to the beginning of the next).then you can proceed in taking her to the hospital... And you can most certainly take her to 'labour and delivery' or L&D and not have to bother with the emergency room. However, if she says she feels the need to push and her water has broken I would advise you call and ambulance and definetely not drive her yourself....you will be nervous and should not be behind the wheel of a car at that time. Do no take your wife to maternity, that is reserved for women who have already given birth, although in some areas L&D is close at hand to maternity...they are not the same thing.
I hope I was able to answer you question today. I hope your wife has a healthy and safe delivery and congratulations on your new baby.

I'm assuming you're in the UK. A&E is not the usual first point of call for a woman in labour.
Your wife should have a green booklet of maternity notes which she keeps herself and takes to all her check-ups. On the front of this her midwife will have filled in details of phone numbers of the hospital she is booked into . The community midwife's phone number will certainly be on there - if there isn't an appointment booked with her in the next few days then please please ring her now and tell her you're not clear on what to do.
The last thing you want is a panic when your wife's labour starts - she'll need you to be supporting her and seeming (on the surface at least!) as calm and collected as possible. Good luck.

Just take your wife to the emergency. You could ring them ahead to let them know that you are bringing in your wife in

You should take her to the emergency room. When I had my girls, I had them at a Women's hospital. My then husband drove me to the emergency room door.
