Gee is indeed short for Jesus. Americans do tend to get all panicky and ask for god to help them, once their brains give up. This is usually very quickly; it's not uncommon for Americans to pray to god first thing in the morning - this should give an indication of just how smart they are. You might also have heard of the term 'gee whizz', to express amazement. 'Whizz' of course is short for wizard. Americans are still non-plussed that Jesus managed to split the seas, make bread and fish.. In Europe nowadays we have a Channel Tunnel to split the sea, and when we go to the supermarket we assume bread comes from the land, rather than straight from Jesus' hands. God's works in mysterious ways, and finds it too easy to confuse Americans.

Gee or Gee Whiz is a light way of swearing...its short for Jesus but not quite as direct.
I'm an American...you mean that Europeans don't use that expression?

I didn't know it annoyed people from other countries.
Perhaps I shall start saying it more often, to actually give them a reason to hate me personally, instead of relying on their general prejudices against all Americans.
Gee, I think that's a great idea!

I thought that "Gee" was what you yelled to the mules or oxen to get them to go right. "Haw" is the command to go left.
Or is it the other way around?
No matter, I drive a car.
