Passover (Hebrew: פסח; transliterated as Pesach or Pesah), also called חג המצות (Chag HaMatzot - Festival of Matzot) is a Jewish holiday which is celebrated in the northern spring. It begins on the 15th day of Nisan (on the Hebrew calendar), which falls between March 15-April 30. Passover commemorates the Exodus and freedom of the Israelites from ancient Egypt. As described in the Book of Exodus, Passover marks the "birth" of the Jewish nation, as the Jews' ancestors were freed from being slaves of Pharaoh and allowed to become servants of God instead.
In Israel, Passover is a 7-day holiday, with the first and last days celebrated as a full festival (involving abstention from work, special prayer services and holiday meals). In the Jewish diaspora outside Israel, the holiday is traditionally celebrated for 8 days, with the first two days and last two days celebrated as full festivals. The intervening days are known as Chol HaMoed (festival weekdays).

Passover is a holiday mostly celebrated by hebrews and some christians, the real date is April 14th, every year but some people think it changes because of the leap year. It doesn't. Anyway, in the old testament the hebrews celebrated it as the death angel passing over Egypt. In some other religions the passover was renewed in the new testament to where we celebrate it because it's in remeberance of Christ.

"pass over the peas please"--jk
being serious Passover (Pesach in hebrew) is the holiday to commemorate Moses taking the Jews out of Egypt, AND the miraculas splitting of the Red sea that allowed the Jews to finally truelly escape from Egypt.
Jews eat several queer items on the 1st 2 nights of this holiday (called Seders (literally "order" b/c the meal must progress in a specific order)
1. Matzah- an unleavaned bread to commemorate the fact that the Jews didnt have time to bake true bread as they left egypt
2. Marror-a bitter herb to commemorate the bitterness the egyptians inflicted upon the Jews by enslaving them
3. a hard boiled egg-to commemorate the holiday sacrifice given in the temple before it was destroyed
4. a shank bone (not really eat as much as show)- to commemorate the special sacrifice of a lamb given on pesach since Moses' time the 1st time it was given the blood was smeared on the door posts so G-d would "passover" the jewish houses when he was killing all of the non-jewish 1st borns in Egypt (hense the name "passover" for this holiday ingenious eh?)
5.Charoset-a mixture of apples, wine, and some other stuff to remember the brick morter that the jews had to make bricks out of when they were slaves.

Here is an easier way to understand. In the first month of the Jewish year. ( March/April) came passover. This joyful festival celebrates the Jewish nations escape from Egypt under Moses' leadership. There is allot more to the festival but that is the basic idea. I'm not trying to demean the Jewish Faith ,just to answer this in an easier way, milk, not manna.

it is a holiday to thank God for passing over our decendents home. moses told the pharoh that if he did not 'let his people go', that there would be plagues. and this one was that the first born son of every mother would die unless sheeps blood was on the door into the home.

Passover is a holiday to thank God for passing over our decendants homes. moses told pharoh that if he didn't let moses' people go that God would send many plagues until he, pharoh, would let moses' people go. the plague that god 'passed over' our decentants home was the plague that would kill the first born son of egypt (the first born of every mother). moses told the people that listened to him that God would pass over their house if they put sheeps blood on their door.
