I am going to a baby shower in the next couple of weeks and wondered about gifts for the mother as well as the baby?
Anyone have any good suggestions - something a little different perhaps?
Thanks!

Dear Christine*****

When it comes to mom, everyone forgets, as they are so fascinated and excited about the new baby, remember all mom needs during this period of time is "SLEEP". What my sister-in-laws and I did was we printed a whole lot of "time-out" vouchers.
You have to have babysitters to do this gift. At the end of the month whoevers turn it was to babysit would go over to mom's place and fetch baby. Baby is a year old now and just loves time-out too. Looks like we will do this for a loooooooooooong time. We all love her to bits.
Obviously we did buy gifts for them, but we had chosen a baby shop and sent a letter to all who were at the babyshower of all the things she did not have. All those items were put on a shelf for the ladies to buy and each gift was wrapped in nappies with diaper pins, dummies, rattles etc pinned to them. Being family we bought all the expensive items, like the pram, cradle, etc. Hope this helps!!!

As a mom of a 3 month old the thing i have that i love the most is a boppy pillow. If the mom breast feeds she can use it to wrap around her and help support the baby (even if she doesnt she could use it for support when bolttle feeding). It is great if the baby has refulx or sinus problems to help them sleep in recline position. As the baby grows and starts to sit up it will help support the baby there. Also Diapers get a laundry basket and fill it with all size diapers and wipes and baby lotion ect. If they are registered somewhere check out what she may need there. As for mom get her some lotion or bath set maybe even make a gift certificate to offer your free baby sitting service when she is ready, anything that would pamper her.

Get her something practical. I know I got a lot of clothes that my daughter never got to use (too many, wrong season, etc.). What I could have used was diapers and gift certificates to places like Target so I could buy formula (when that time came). Either that or get her a massage gift certificate. After carrying a baby in the womb and then in the arms for months at a time, her back will definitely be hurting.

that is a wonderful idea.
The last baby shower I went to I gave the mom to be some very soft cozy socks. She wore them during her labor and delivery.

An idea is the get a basket and fill it with some soft slippers a comfey night gown and a comfortable bathrobe.

Or fill the basket with some lipstick, and lotion and things like that.

Get her a good book.

Get her a charm braclett and tell her that when the baby is born promise her a charm with the babys name on it.

Or a necklace that says Mom

Or get her a locket that she can put the baby picture in it.

for my best friend's baby shower my sister and i bought her baby clothes in vibrant colors such as green and yellow even if they are boys vs.blue; try some picture frames for the baby and some nice pampering things for the mom such as maybe a giftcard to a spa or something relaxing since she is pregnant. also, a new haircut and a mani and pedi does not hurt either! for the baby to Things Rememberd since they have the things for all ocassions and you might engrave a picture frame with a proverb from the Bible that you know you like or the mom likes, and then they also have these pacifiers that i think are made outof silver in case you want to spoill the aby!

As a father of three, trust me, different is cute but not practical.

When the showers are over and the baby is here, what parents need are the essentials.
You can NEVER have enough diapers, bottles, baby clothes, wipes, bibs, etc.

Give a gift that you KNOW will be appreciated!
