Gay men seem to be vain, highly strung and superficial. Any gay men with depth and intelligence out there?

Look Ashley, I know you don't want straight, female, boring old **arts to answer your question, but I really don't believe that you honestly have the impression that gay men seem to be vain, highly strung and superficial - hell, what a combination!!!

I know lots of gay men with depth, intelligence and all the qualities you would want in a friend at whatever level! Can't add any more because I'm out of my depth now!

I'm only as vain as any man of any sexuality.I usually am the most relaxed person anyone can ever meet.I spend most of my time on the couch.I actually have my own groove on the couch and on the bed that I rarely deviate from.And as far as being superficial, well, let me just say that I am a poor white boy who drives an old beat up car and whose only luxury is big TVs and surround sound.

As far as intelligence goes, I tend to get along better with people older and more experienced then I am because people my age rarely get it.I am intelligent on certain things but am willing to admit the things that I just don't know anything about.

So, I think there are guys like that out there.I think I am one of them.But I usually let people decide that for themselves when they meet me.My problem is I don't like bars and don't drink, which happens to be the main social thing to do for gay men.So, I spend a lot of time alone.Hey, at least I know what kind of company I am going to have.

I admit to vanity but it seems these days that all men are vain to a degree and that it has nothing to do with sexuality. I am incapable of being superficial (apart from responding to this) and remain as cool as a cucumber in the most testing circumstances. Depth and intelligence? That's for you to determine....

Maybe you're projecting. Or maybe that's the sort of gay men you attract. To say that we are any more highly strung or superficial makes me think that perhaps you've described yourself. It's precisely the sort of thing a highly strung superficial person would do.

I like to think so. I don't consider myself any of the above (maybe a little "highly strung" when I get passionate about something, but not all the time). I'm going to assume you're just frustrated and not seriously considering these common traits to all gay men.

Ah, I know exactly how you feel! Luckily I can say that yes, yes, yes there are gay men with depth and intelligence out there. I went searching on my own, feeling much the way it seems you do (assuming from the way this question is worded) and was able to find and befriend them.

That's just a stereotype.... though often an accurate one with people open about being gay, it's not always the case.

Most the gays with depth and intelligence do go advertizing the fact they are gay.... they don't try and hide it... but they don't go telling everyone they see.

I am very educated and i'm not a typical gay man...I have intelligence ,depth ....ask me anything youlike I bet I can't answer them with a str8 face...lol

I would think a few of us yes. My partner and I are together 15 years. We are educated, interested in issues of economic justice for the underpriveleged, active in our community, in our faiths, and in various and sundry related things.
