about 310 miles by car, directions below.

There's a fantastic hotel near Ullswater called the Inn on the lake, but it's not cheap: http://www.lakedistricthotels.net/innonthelake/, other hotels at http://www.hotelnet.co.uk/locations/Cumbria-hotels.htm

Cumbria is in the extreme northwest of England (300 miles north of London). There are basically two areas to visit: The Lake District, which consists of a great deal of countryside and many small towns and villages, and Carlisle, which is on the border with Scotland. There are many nice hotels in the Lake District and a couple in Carlisle. You may wish to check these Web sites for further information...

316miles from cumbria to london. As for cheap hotels depemds where you want to stay. If its fairly cental for sights try Regents Palace Hotel at 40 quid a night just off piccadilly circus. Not the nicest but the cheapest.
