I've made a few good internet friends, but I think the internet makes it easier for people to be dishonest. It just depends on the people you're involved with....my advice is trust your instincts about people....it's usually correct.

I think you can make friends any where. Trusting someone just comes with time and how well you know them. I trusted the love of my life whom I met on the internet 6 years ago. Best choice ever, and he has NEVER betrayed my trust.
It really just boils down to who you are dealing with and what have their actions told you... follow your gut feeling.
