it really depends on which trojan you have.
try AVG from Grisoft.com - it is free and thorough.
if it identifies something and cant remove it, then try all the anti-virus website virus encyclopaedias for information on how to remove the specific problem

Trust me on this one ok? Forget about all the cookie cutters here and listen to this...
I have tried just about every antivirus program in the market, and I find that the activevirus shield works wonders, do you know why? Because it's made by kaspersky labs... a very high rated program. It's easy to install, easy interface, and find most trojans that other programs dont find! I used to have the bitdefender 10 and 9, really high rated programs too. Activevirus shield found more trojans than bitfender 10 and 9 did. I would really suggest you getting the activevirus shield..

In choosing programs, never go by what everybody elses preferences are , you go by the high ratings and the reviews on it. Try looking at cnet.com and majorgeeks.com for all the reviews you need to look up for a certain program.
While you're there at cnet.com, also look for some antispyware programs, the superantispyware program is really good, also the adaware SE and spywareblaster and spybot is really good too..all free at download.com.
Don't forget to check out all the reviews and high ratings while you're there at cnet.com
Happy and safe computing my friend....

Spybot - Search & Destroy detects and removes spyware, a relatively new kind of threat not yet covered by common anti-virus applications. Spyware silently tracks your surfing behaviour to create a marketing profile for you that is transmitted without your knowledge to the compilers and sold to advertising companies. If you see new toolbars in your Internet Explorer that you haven't intentionally installed, if your browser crashes inexplicably, or if your home page has been "hijacked" (or changed without your knowledge), your computer is most probably infected with spyware. Even if you don't see the symptoms, your computer may be infected, because more and more spyware is emerging. Spybot-S&D is free, so there's no harm giving it a try to see if something has invaded your computer.

You can actually get Norton free with updates free for 6 months from Google. Just search Google Norton.
Quite a few of the Trojans out at the moment seem resistant to anti-virus software so if they scanners people told you about don't work you will need to backup your setup files then format and rebuild windows from the installation disk up.

There are a lot of options but you (and we) need to know which Trojan you are dealing with.
You could read this article for some background or just jump down to the link at the bottom to see a list of known trojans and some software to deal with them.
