the way i got rid of a similar stain was to damp it with warm soapy water then use plenty of kitchen roll folded into a pad then put it on the stain and stand on it to draw both water and stain out. it worked for me.

Try the tips for jam stains, or wine stains. But if it still doesn't come out, you may have to patch the rug.
Cut out the stained part in a regular square or rectangle with a cutter (exacto knife). Be sure to include a little bit of unstained carpet all the way around. Take it to the carpet store, and match your carpet with their samples. Beg and plead that they either give you or sell you a sample. Cut the sample the same size as your stained square. Make sure the carpet lays the same way in both samples. Then simply pop the new square in and fluff up the carpet to hide the cut.

Try using Borax. It is a very good natural cleanser and it is not toxic like a lot of other cleaners. The most popular brand in the USA seems to be Twenty Mule Team. Borax was widely used in the past, but it has taken a back seat to a lot of "new fangled" cleaners. It is not very well advertised, but it is still on the market as a laundry booster. It can replace most toxic household cleansers and save you quite a bit of money in the process. It can be used for anything from washing dishes to cleaning your bathroom, along with using it as a laundry detergent. I love to use it as a laundry detergent because it naturally gets rid of static cling without one having to use any thing else. And, it cleans clothes very well, also. Also, guess what is the active indegredent in most brands of non-chlorine beach; you guessed it, Borax........! Simply make a paste of water and the borax and rub it into the stain. You can also wet the entire area of your carpet with the borax paste and let it stand for a couple of hours for the toughest stains and simply repeat the scrubbing process. In closing, Dr. Hulda R. Clark, Ph.D.,N.D. highly recommends the use of borax in her natural health care books, linked below. Her flagship book is called, "The Cure For All Diseases," which I highly recommend as toxins (and typical household cleaners are full of them) are one of the two main causes of diseases. (The other cause is parasites.) Every household should have a copy of this book in it, in my opinion.

Hire a carpet cleaner for best results.
If your in the UK Tesco hire one for around £18 ( plus chemicals) a day so you could do your whole house in that time or do like i did and share the cost with someone else that needed to use it

I would suggest trying hydrogen peroxide mixed with carpet cleaning solution. Since it removes red wine stains from carpets and rugs, it may be effective on this as well.
Best wishes!
