Do you think it is a good Idea for the Government to tell us who we can and can not marry? Or is it just a matter of having a problem with the gay lifestyle? Tell me why you would or would not want Government involved in who you marry. Or would contract law involvement only, be better?

If a church doesn't want to perform the ceremony that is their right, it may not be a marriage in the eyes of God. But how about a justice of the peace?

Mankind uses words to convey ideas and specify meanings. A marriage is not a same sex union! I believe that the word "marriage" is ALREADY defined as a union between man + woman.I don't really understand why the Gays' seem to want to use the term "marriage"- when a lifelong civil union w/ equal government /economic recognition is what they want. I believe that same gender couples should be able to obtain a Same Sex Union Certificate which would entitle them to the same economic and rights of survival benefits AND difficulties if they seek a divorce from their mate/spouse. They too MUST be required to file for divorce, settle their shared assets, change their wills, redesignate beneficiary status etc.

The government is NOT really concerned about WHO your spouse or pardner/mate IS. The IRS has to apply the correct proceures/ formulas based on the "status" -->individual/ joint/ age etc.
..Now "gay" unions are off the books; The Same Sex Union Certificate would provide the same documentation as a marriage certificate. As for the states and individual companies, they will have to decide whether they will change their policies on many items..i.e. payment of a pension to the deceased spouse(married) or non divorced pardner(same sex union).
---The gay lifestyle is another topic....some people do not believe that same sex unions are
"normal"...they do not produce the next generation..they are in conflict with their religious beliefs. Thier beliefs are AS STRONG as the belief held by gays that they are not abnormal,..they should be able to have an intimate relationship and seek happiness with whoever they want ...
SO simply put..a piece of paper (same sex union) can achieve economic equity BUT individual Humans can and do choose what they want to accept or believe in. Heterosexuals and homosexuals need to recognize this concept...NO ONE IS guaranteed that they will be liked and accepted.

The whole "debate" was odd to me in the first place. One marriage is now a failing concept anyway, jeshhh anything that has 50% failure rate would usually be recalled by the manufacturer wouldn't it? Second, I'm tired of being TOLD how to think. Third I do understand how legal rights of marriage should be extended to others but since it's failing union shouldn't that right be abolished anyway? Then again whom would the authorities turn to if a partner was hospitalized? Third, if one State says yes do they have the right to force other States? Fourth, seems simple enough solution with a power of attorney. Covers all legal aspects from hospital to wills. The only one it doesn't cover is testimony in court. And if gay couples wish to show their love all kinds of ways to do so without involving forcing the issue down everyone throat.

Personally I think the solution to this dilemma is to get government out of marriage all together. This is what I propose Marriage will be the domain of religious bodies as it has be throughout most of history.. The government on the other hand would consider all life couples heterosexual, homosexual as civil unions for tax purposes etc... While this is not a perfect solution I think it best preserves everybody's rights and would be acceptable except to the most homophobic among us

i want the government out of my life compleatly.but also the bible says marraige is one man one woman.if two gays want to live together then let them i dont care. what they do in their house is their business. but no marriage. maybe civil unions.
btw the couple that sued mass to allow gay marriage and became the first to marry also became the first to divorce six months later.

In a free nation, we shouldn't legislate morallity on consenting adults.

If gays wanna get married, then let them.
