You shouldn't be represented by a "party". You should be represented by a person.

As you look around the political landscape, you'll see examples of liberal Republicans, like Olympia Snow or Arlen Spector, conservative Democrats, like Zell Miller and Bob Casey, and moderates from both sides, like Joe Lieberman or John McCain.

All are popular with their constituencies, I'd guess more because of their positions than their party affiliation. As it should be...right?

Democrats. They do more for education and health. They believe in medical insurance for all. They feel that our tax dollars are better spent insuring a better future by education. They are more interested in the common good as opposed to enriching the already rich. The Republiccan party believes in big business. Supposedly, by giving the rich & their companies more tax breaks the benefits are to "trickle" down to the middle class & poor. As I see it, the current "tax cuts" have only resulted in enriching the pockets of the already rich. They have ridiculously high salaries, perks, bonuses and huge retirement benefits even if the CEO's do a lousy job.
In order to enjoy the above, they lay-off employees or take their companies to Mexico to make even greater profits to spend on self.
As for taxes: Sure the republicans cut taxes but look at the huge deficits this country has. This particular administration has spent, spent, spent & I'm not talking about the cost of war. Whoever follows Bush will be inheriting a mess & it would probably take more than 4 yrs to recover.
Clinton left his term with a large surplus.

As a result of misspending by Bush & the Republican congress, they are trying to cut the costs of Social Security benefits & laws have already been passed reducing Medicare benefits. My dr retired and I actually had dr's offices tell me that they were no longer taking medicare
patients.

So, if you are interested in a better future for yourself, go with the Democrats. Re Democrats & taxes - they wouldn't have reduced them to begin with. Even if they are raised they would never be raised to the level they were before the tax reductions took place.
