Okay, how would you feel if the dog blew on your face???
Its kinda common sense
I mean smelly breath plus having a good nose is not a favourable combo

I read somewhere that since a dog's sense of smell is so magnified, when they stick their head out the window all the different smells are like a natural "high" for the dog--it's not the wind.

This does not answer your question, but I have a friend who has a dog, and if you blow on the end of her nose she'll start to lick. If you do it enough she'll lick your lips, so be careful!
My dog, however, does exactly as you'd expect him to. And he also likes to stick his head out the window while riding in the car.

because of his sense of smell.the odors in your mouth is pretty bad and a dogs nose magnifies that by 10x if i remember right, whereas sticking his head out an open window he is not exposed to any certain direct odor

You probably have a farty bottom and this is why your dog sticks his head out the window.
I know when I'm in the car with my BF i sometimes stick my head out the window.

I guess...Breath is like a fart sometimes. Since it comes from an opening into the body. Sometimes it smells like a fart too, especially in the morning after you've had a long night of drinking. My cats seem to enjoy the smell. Good Question!

which would you prefer, fresh air or bad breath? i think any self respecting dog would prefer fresh air from outside the car window.

Yeah, and they don't mind licking you in the mouth/face with their putrid doggy breath either! Hypocritical little bastards!
