My daughter is 1.5 yrs old and until now, we've been using a sleep sack as her blanket...is it safe at this age to use a baby blanket in her crib or do we still need to worry about suffocation hazards? Going to ask her doc at her 18 mo appt but just wondering if anyone knew about it?

It is safe to use a blanket in the crib with a child of any age as long as it is done correctly. First of all make sure that when you place your child into the crib they are at the foot. Then tuck the blanket under the mattress so that just enough is free to cover your baby up to their underarms. That way your child can not move down in the crib and get lost under the blanket. If you are still unsure and you do not get the response that answers all your doubts from the doctor, pop into your nearest child care centre and ask them to show you how to do it. I'm sure they will be happy too.

I belive it is safe to use a blanket now, the only thing you need to be sure of, is that the blanket is tucked under the babie's arm pits (just covering her chest) and that there is no stuff animals or pillows in her crib. Because those are risks of suffication. Also lay your daughter on her back on a hard surface not a soft pillow or mattress.

Once the baby is able to roll over and lift his or her head it is safe to introduce bedding to the crib..

The danger with bedding is excessive bedding (large thick bulky blankets) and a babys inability to move out of it when unable to lift thier head or roll over...

Most babies are able to lift thier head and roll over by 3-4 months...

At 1.5 years your child should be able to not only lift her head but roll over, crawl , climb and walk a blanket is perfectly safe to introduce... You should be thinking about a toddlers bed or other bed soon as your child will likely be able to get out of the crib soon if not already... Placing her in a regular bed/ toddler bed with a guard rail will place her lower to the ground than a crib should she take a fall getting out ...

We have used a blanket in my daughters crib sence she was born and she is now 11 months old.She has always had a crib bumper, head board cover,blankets(3-4),stuffed animals, and a pillow in her crib and never had any problems. She actually slept more comfortably and longer with her blankie and pillow.

i think you can cover her with blankets. but i think now is not the right time...especially if winter is cold like it is here. i would recomand that you use a thin blanket in summer or spring when it is warmer.

sacks are good as the kid doesn't get uncovered during the night.
