uh, Schindler's List, but it's a Holocaust movie. not exactly something to watch on a date... same with The Pianist... Hotel Rwanda is about the Rwandan genocide...

for a more date-appropriate movie... Finding Neverland (I didn't cry but a lot of my girl friends did)... Amelie (I personally loved it and cried at parts but it's kind of chick-flick-y)...

if you aren't into chick-flick-y stuff, try... Au revoir les enfants (it's French... it's a Holocaust movie with no violence)... Life is Beautiful (it's Italian... another Holocaust movie, and there's more violence, but it's actually meant as a sort-of-comedy... you'll see what I mean if you watch it)

oooh, and in response to the guy below me... I thought Lion King was sad! (and if I watched it again I'd probably cry, hehehe) and I cried at Pokemon: The First Movie... but that was when I was like 7. it's a really bad movie, don't ever watch it, ever.

The Fifteen Hankie Award goes jointly to:
Babe - a triumph of dreams and joy
and
To Live - a Chinese movie about life in Mao's China. Absolutely the most touching and moving film I've ever seen. With the radiant Gong Li (the Chinese woman in "Miami Vice").

I cried straight thru Edward Scissorhands...
Some other good ones are:
Road to Perdition (Tom Hanks is a mafia hitman!)
The Fastest Indian (about an old man who finally lives out his dream- NOT about Indians, but a motorcycle)
Amelie (French movie with a sweetness that makes you feel so happy, and even without the subtitles it makes perfect sense)
Breakfast at Tiffany's (duh)
Terms of Endearment (very sappy, sweet, sad, hopeful movie... also a MAJOR chick-flick-- Sirley MacLaine, Jack Nicholson, and some 80's 30-somethings)

The Green Mile had me in tears! And I'm sorry but there is a Jody Foster/Richard Gere movie set after the civil war that tore me up and all my girlfriends, I can't remember the name of it! It starts with a B and is driving me crazy!! But if you go to or call someone like Blockbuster they can pull it up for you, I'm telling you, if she wants a good cry, this is it! Just real quick, this woman (J.F.) thinks her mean hubby dies in the war, a man shows up saying he is her long lost hubby, (he's not) but she is so attracted to him that she lets him think that she believes, it gets pretty intense, and then he is arrested for war crimes, that the dead hubby DID commit, tried and put to death! There is more to the story, I'd surprise her with this one, and she will need a shoulder to cry on :) I promise!

I know it's stupid, but I always get choked up during the movie "Ice Age" when they find the human drawings in the cave of the mammoth family. Then it's kind of shown how Manny the mammoth once had a mate and calf that were killed by humans. I'm in tears just writing about it, dang!
