When you need a cigarette, take a huge deep breath and hold it for a few seconds then let it out very very slowly. It gives you a relaxed feeling afterward kind of like the feeling you have after a cigarette. I quit that way and have been smoke free for 6 years.
Other tricks I've heard:
Drink orange juice ( cigs are nasty after that)
Brush your teeth every time you want one
Take a walk
Hang in there. Don't take it day by day. Take it minute by minute. If you want one tell yourself to wait 5 minutes. If you still want one after that, keep adding minutes. Eventually the craving will go away. Good luck!

First of all people need to get their information right. Smoking doesn't cause anything except low birth weight and a slight increase in SIDS that's it. It's alcohol and all that other stuff that causes retardation, deformaties and things like that I'm so sick and tired of hearing that. My mom smoked with me, with my brother and my little brother and all of us are more than healthy with no illnesses, or anything not even allergies. The worst that's gonna happen if you keep on smoking is your child will have a nicotine fit when it's born because of the same withrawals as you would have quitting and life at home for the first few days will be hell.

When mothers quit smoking during the first trimester, their infants have weight and body measurements similar to infants of nonsmokers.
Smoking cessation programs for pregnant women protect against health conditions such as intrauterine growth retardation, which causes low birthweight and other serious health problems.
Just a 1% decline in the proportion of pregnant women who smoke would prevent 1,300 cases of low birthweight each year and would save $21 million in direct medical costs (1995 U.S. dollars).

my husband took my lighter away, I know it's easy just to go and buy a new lighter but for some reason it worked for me. the baby is 6 now and I haven't had one since. it is very stressful but I found out the hard way how harmful smoking is having 3 miscarriages and a stillbirth. of course the more heartache I had the more I stressed and smoked. You will be able to. I did some knitting and cross stitch to keep busy. good luck

Congratulations and good luck with the quitting. I recommend you see your doctor and get advice on what options you have giving up smoking while pregnant. You shouldn't think its easy as it never is but every time you think about a smoke remind yourself why your giving up. So you can have a beautiful healthy baby girl or boy.
Your doctor will be able to give you the best advice on how to deal with quitting so you don't stress yourself even more. I wish you all the very best in quiting smoking.
Remember every time you think about smoking and giving in remember why your doing it. your beautiful baby. Its so worth it, but its never easy. I hope you succeed and enjoy a healthy pregnancy.

Ok i'm not saying that smoking is a good thing when your preggo but i smoked the first 4 months of my first pregnacy i just slaked down everyday and i finally put them down and didn't want them anymore. My friend got preggo a couple of years ago and tried to just up and quit and she had a miscarriage well she tried it 3 times and all miscarriages not saying that that's the reason but her doc finally told her not to up and quit to slack off smoking less and less for the first few weeks, doc thought that it was to much of a strain on her body all at once. But like i said everyone's different and i'm not saying that you should smoke while preggo just do what's at your pace and try different things you'll get it...

Do whatever it takes. You need to stop now though. The first trimester is the most important!!!! Most doctors will tell you...even if you only smoke 1 cigarette a day its better than smoking like you do now. Really though you should just quite. Imagine how you'll feel if your child is permanently damaged cause you couldn't stop smoking!

i smoked my first trimester when i was pregnant..then i cut down, not denying the craving, but i did different things to keep me occupied..i cleaned house alot..then smoking just didnt seem to interest me as much..i would maybe smoke 1-3 a day..no this isnt a lie..as soon as i got my first ultrasound, i knew i wanted a healthy baby..i quit before my second trimester was over..it takes will power, but for a healthy baby, its all worth it..you will know the right time to quit, dont let anyone tell you what to do.. only you know whats right and when the time is right..good luck..

your smoking will just increase your stress. Go through the three days without a smoke and after that you will be fine.
You can't be selfish.....you need to think about what this will do to your child. And what this will do to you in the long run.

Go see your doctor first thing and they can give you advice and maybe help you find a support group. Get everyone you know involved to support you and help you along. Try to be with a friend or someone you trust to help you everyday. This baby needs you right now and the first trimester is the most crucial, I hope it all works out. Good luck.
